The New Recommendations page is a complete guide of today's Barchart Opinions. The Summary Page links to a detailed page for each Indicator's Buy/Sell/Hold rating.
Note: Opinions on each symbol are updated every 20 minutes throughout the day, using delayed data from the exchanges. A security needs to have at least 201 active trading days in order to generate an Opinion reading.
To be included in the Trading Signals page, a futures contract must have traded today, and must have an Opinion and a last month's Opinion.
The first category on the Summary page—the Overall Opinion—lists the contracts that are at a 100% buy or a 100% sell configuration. The second category—Today's New Indicators—contains the listing of contracts whose indicators have changed to a new buy, sell or hold signal for the time period selected at the top of the Summary page.
Each of these lists have a subset of futures contracts, which can be accessed by clicking on the listing for each box.
There are two time frames to choose from:
- Current - The list of contracts to display is updated every 10 minutes throughout the trading day. However, new symbols are not automatically added to or re-ranked on the page until the site performs its 10-minute update.
- Daily - The list of contracts to display on these pages is updated once a day at approx. 8pm EST. Opinions for each indicator were calculated using the closing data from the previous trading session.
Indicator Pages
When you click the link to view contracts for a specific indicator (the new Buys, Holds, or Sells), you are presented with an Indicator page showing all the contract symbols in that group.
Clicking on the $ (P&L) icon will show the performance and profit/loss summary of this trading strategy over the past 5-years, while clicking on the chart icon takes you to a chart for the symbol with the indicator.
Note: The Indicator page shows each contract's Overall Opinion – the combination of all 13 technical indicators – as well as its combined Short, Medium and Long-Term Opinion for the time period selected on the Summary page.
Barchart Opinions
Barchart Opinions show traders what a variety of popular trading systems are suggesting in terms of going long or short the market. The Opinions takes up to 5 years' worth of historical data and runs these prices through thirteen different technical indicators. After each calculation, the program assigns a buy, sell or hold value for each study, depending on where the price lies in reference to the common interpretation of the study. For example, if the price is above the moving average of the stock then this is generally considered an upward trend or a buy.
