Price Volume Trend

The Price/Volume Trend Index ( PVT ) is a similar to On Balance Volume in that it is a cumulative momentum style indicator which ties together Volume with price action. However the key difference is that the amount of Volume added to the total is dependent upon the relationship of Today's close to Yesterdays close.

Study Type: Stand-alone

Formula

Calculate the Percentage Change in closing price:

( Closing Price [today] - Closing Price [yesterday] ) / Closing Price [yesterday]
Multiply the Percentage Change by Volume:
Percentage Change * Volume [today]
Add to yesterday's cumulative total:
Percentage Change * Volume [today] + PVT [yesterday]
