Crude Closes Lower on Energy Demand Concerns

January WTI crude oil (CLF25) Tuesday closed down -0.63 (-0.89%), and January RBOB gasoline (RBF25) closed down -0.0318 (-1.61%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices were under pressure Tuesday, with gasoline falling to a 1-week low.  Concerns about weak Chinese energy demand are weighing on crude prices.   Also, Tuesday's slide in stocks undercuts confidence in the economic outlook that is negative for energy demand and crude prices.

Another headwind for crude prices is the possibility of a cease-fire in Gaza, easing geopolitical risks in the Middle East.  Israeli officials said today that a cease-fire in Gaza is a more realistic prospect than at any time in the past year.

Crude demand in China has weakened and is a bearish factor for oil prices.  According to data compiled by Bloomberg, China's Nov apparent oil demand fell -2.14% y/y to 14.013 million bpd, and Jan-Nov apparent oil demand was down -3.26% y/y to 13.996 million bpd.  China is the world's second-largest cr...
