Robusta Coffee 10-T Futures Market News and Commentary

Arabica Coffee Slips on Dollar Strength and a Rebound in ICE Inventories

March arabica coffee (KCH25) Friday closed down -1.75 (-0.54%), and January ICE robusta coffee (RMF25) closed up +15 (+0.29%).

Coffee prices Friday settled mixed.  Arabica coffee gave up an early advance and turned lower after the dollar index rallied to a 2-1/2 week high.  However, robusta moved higher on signs of tighter supplies after ICE-monitored robusta coffee inventories Friday fell to a 7-1/2 month low of 3,674 lots.  

Another bearish factor for arabica coffee is an increase in current supplies after ICE-monitored arabica coffee inventories on Friday climbed to a 2-1/2 year high of 940,426 bags.

Coffee prices have rallied sharply this week based on the outlook for a smaller Brazilian coffee crop.   On Tuesday, Mar arabica posted a contract high, and the Dec coffee nearest-futures contract (Z24) posted a record high.  Also, robusta coffee rose to a 2-week high.  The outlook for a smaller coffee crop in Brazil sent prices soaring after Volcafe on Tuesday cut...
