Lean hog futures are up 60 to 90 cents on Tuesday. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $83.34 on Tuesday morning, up $5.34 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $81.94 on January 24, up 2 cents from the previous day.
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was 49 cents higher in the Tuesday AM report at $93.65 per cwt. The belly, ham, and picnic primals were the only reported higher. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was at 483,000 head. That 61,000 head above last Monday but down 6,224 head from the same Monday last year.
