
Lean hogs posted 97 cent to $2.85 higher trade on Tuesday, as bulls were in rally mode. The USDA National Base Hog price was reported at 85.05 on Tuesday afternoon, a $1.93 increase from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was $88.42 on July 12, back up 4 cents from the previous day.
USDA reported the Tuesday AM Pork Cutout Value $2.58 higher at $100.87. The picnic and loin primals were the only reported lower, as the ham led the way up $9.71. USDA estimated Tuesday’s FI hog slaughter at 477,000 head, which takes this week’s total to 955,000 head. That was 17,000 head above last week and 32,437 head larger than the same week last year.
