
Lean hog futures are trading with 12 to 87 cent losses across most contracts on Monday. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $78.32 on Monday Tuesday, which was down $1.37 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $83.12 on January 2 down 87 cents from the previous day.
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was back down $1.57 in the Monday AM report at $87.97 per cwt. The belly was the only primal reported higher, up $6.37. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated 2.288 million head. That was up 237,000 head from last week but down 80,755 head from the same week last year.
