Coffee Prices Finish Higher as Brazil Rain Chances Diminish

December arabica coffee (KCZ24) Friday closed up +2.15 (+0.84%), and November ICE robusta coffee (RMX24) closed up +17 (+0.36%).

Coffee prices Friday settled higher after updated weather forecasts reduced the chances of rain in Brazil.  Short covering emerged in coffee futures Friday after Meteorologist Climatempo said showers in Minas Gerais are now expected to be scattered over the next week, down from a previous forecast of widespread showers.  A weaker dollar (DXY00) Friday also boosted short covering in coffee.  

Excessive dryness in Brazil may curb coffee yields and is a bullish price factor.  Rainfall in Brazil has consistently been below average since April, damaging coffee trees during the all-important flowering stage and reducing the prospects for Brazil's 2025/26 arabica coffee crop.  Somar Meteorologia reported Monday that Brazil's Minas Gerais region received 33.4 mm of rain over the past week, or 99% of the historical average.  Minas Gerais accounts for ab...
