Robusta Coffee 10-T Futures Market News and Commentary

Coffee Prices Rebound as Dollar Weakness Spurs Short Covering

March arabica coffee (KCH25) today is up +6.75 (+2.28%), and January ICE robusta coffee (RMF25) is up +121 (+2.62%).

Coffee prices today are moderately higher, recovering some of the sharp losses from Tuesday and Monday.  Today's dollar weakness (DXY00) has sparked some short-covering in coffee futures.  Robusta also rose today as rain in Vietnam is delaying the coffee harvest.

On Tuesday, arabica coffee fell to a 1-1/2 week low, and robusta dropped to a 2-1/2 week low.   Long liquidation pressures weighed on coffee prices after J. Ganes Consulting said that keeping a large amount of capital tied into a position in coffee may no longer be justified after ICE raised its margins for holding positions in coffee futures last week.A bearish factor for robusta coffee was the action taken by the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association on Tuesday to raise its 2024/25 Vietnam coffee production estimate to 28 million bags from an October estimate of 27 million bags.
