Robusta Coffee 10-T Futures Market News and Commentary

Arabica Coffee Climbs on Concerns About Brazil's Coffee Supplies

March arabica coffee (KCH25) Thursday closed up +3.20 (+1.09%), and January ICE robusta coffee (RMF25) closed down -11 (-0.23%).

Coffee prices Thursday settled mixed, with March arabica posting a contract high and December arabica posting a new  13-year nearest-futures high.   Coffee prices found support Thursday when the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) projected Brazil's 2024/25 coffee production at 66.4 MMT, below the USDA's official forecast of 69.9 MMT.  The USDA's FAS also projected Brazil's coffee inventories of 1.2 million bags when the 2024/25 season ends in June, down a -26% y/y.  

Coffee prices fell from their best levels Thursday, with robusta falling into negative territory after a slide in the Brazilian real (^USDBRL) to a 2-week low against the dollar sparked profit-taking and long liquidation in coffee futures.  The weaker real encourages export selling by Brazil’s coffee producers.
