Cocoa Futures Market News and Commentary

Cocoa Prices Post Moderate Losses on Favorable West African Harvest Weather

December ICE NY cocoa (CCZ24) Wednesday closed down -234 (-2.73%), and December ICE London cocoa #7 (CAZ24) closed down -29 (-0.40%).

Cocoa prices posted moderate losses on Wednesday as favorable weather in West Africa has allowed farmers to return to fields and proceed with the ongoing harvest of the main crop.  

Another bearish factor for cocoa prices is increased supplies from the Ivory Coast, the world's largest producer.  Government data Monday showed that Ivory Coast farmers shipped 548,494 MT of cocoa to ports from October 1 to November 17, up +32% from 415,523 MT shipped the same time last year.  Meanwhile, cocoa prices were undercut when the Ivory Coast regulator Le Conseil Cafe-Cacao on October 18 raised its Ivory Coast 2024/25 cocoa production estimate to a range of 2.1-2.2 MMT from a June forecast of 2.0 MMT.
